Database on Education Exchange Programmes (DEEP)

DEEP is a database that enables Asian and European students and researchers to:

  • search for exchange programmes and scholarships in all ASEM countries,
  • access information of official agencies assisting foreign students,
  • obtain data on Asian and European education systems, university entry requirements and credit recognition procedures and
  • share and exchange study experiences in Asia and Europe.

Funded with a grant from the Japanese government, DEEP was formally launched in Singapore as one of the events commemorating the ASEF’s 10th Anniversary and a year later presented at the 1st Asia-Europe Meeting of Ministers for Education (ASEMME1) in Berlin. Subsequent years proved challenging for the sustainability of the database.

From 2009 – 2012, my team conducted a review of the database to determine its future direction concluding with the report Where to take DEEP?
