Higher education is back to the top of EU’s political agenda. And why not, there is the highly successful Erasmus student exchange programme that has brought together partnerships among universities, students and researchers in the past 30 years.
At his recent recent Sorbonne speech, Emmanuel Macron presented one idea – the creation of European university networks: groups of between four and six institutions that would collaborate in research, education and innovation. Funded by perhaps €5 million (£4.4 million) over five years, 20 of these networks could set new standards in the free movement of ideas.
